The Right to Bear Arms (and Other Appendages)

Now that’s democracy and capitalism working hand-in-hand. I don’t know why that Karl Marx was so against it?
The way things run in North America, you’d figure the price of money would go up leading into an election. I like the machete angle better. It lets you know where everyone stands… or hops on one leg.

I agree. If it was up to Marx, every man would have a sickle and no one would have anything to reach for. Or, perhaps in Nigeria, reach with…
Ok, so being Independence Day
and all, check this:
Libby move helps seal Bush’s legacy
I just don’t understand. Why go through the process of having a trial, convicting a person, then having the President step in, commute the sentence and imply that a future pardon could happen? What’s the fucking point?
I mean, didn’t this guy “do it?” Isn’t he guilty of breaking the law?
Didn’t his actions risk the life and safety of a person who works for the American people? Did I miss something somewhere along the way?

Well, despite the fact that I really try not to give a squirt about American politics, from what I understand, he might be a bit of a fall guy. He leaked the info, but was he just the chosen mouthpiece? There may be a healthy dollop of guilt coloring the President’s decision.
What doesn’t make sense to me is why a pardon would “repair ties with disaffected conservatives.” Are they saying the Republicans don’t think criminals should be punished for their crimes? It makes me suspect that it is more a reflection of soldiers not being held legally responsible for following orders.

As a beacon for democracy you’d think that the American government would aspire to be better. It’s disappointing to see the process become nothing more than a show, with no follow-through when it comes to holding to the spirit laid out in their sacrosanct Constitution.
How can the US be relied upon to police the world (“Americaaa! Fuck, yeah!”
) when they can’t even police themselves? Other systems of government may be more corrupt, but at least they are so from top to bottom. In America, it’s only corrupt at the top of the food chain.

I’m not sure the US is seen as a “beacon for democracy?”
If you asked the world, “What is the first country you think of when you hear, ‘democracy’,” I’m sure the US would probably come out on top. But what about: “Which country best exemplifies the concepts of democracy?” After the 2000 Presidential Election, I’m sure there’d even be a lot of American dissenters.
The US is a marketing machine. They have the Democracy™ brand name tied up, but you can’t confuse marketing with reputation. You don’t need to “earn” a marketing campaign.

Well, the one thing the Bush government has proven: you can do pretty much anything you want as long as you spin it right. Just bend the facts to fit your ultimate aims. If anyone gets in your way at home, use any means necessary to defame and degrade them so their word is nothing in the eyes of the public.
I wonder how happy Bush will be with his accomplishments at the end of it all, how he’ll be remembered?
